Raymarine announces inaugural Raymarine J/80 Championships
New 2014 Championships to reward season-long performance for J/80 class
Raymarine is proud to announce the company’s sponsorship of the inaugural Raymarine J/80 Championships. A season-long series of UK-based events, the 2014 Raymarine J/80 Championship starts in April with the Warsash Spring Championships, moving on to the J/80 Nationals in Poole and the Royal Southern Yacht Club Regatta in May. June sees the 2014 Raymarine J/80 Championship take in the JP Morgan Round the Island Race, followed by the J-Cup in July, culminating in the last weekend of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week in August. The J/80 is a highly successful One Design with over 1450 J/80s sailing world-wide.
Raymarine’s UK Sales Manager, Harry Heasman, says, “The new Raymarine 2014 J/80 Championships provides a season-long test for the highly competitive J/80 class. We’re pleased to support this great new series that rewards a complete season’s performance for boat and crew; the exciting programme takes in a variety of locations and sailing conditions, just as the J/80 class likes it.”
First place in the Raymarine J/80 Championships wins a complete Raymarine Wireless wind and depth system, a Raymarine Wireless Race Master and sailing jackets for all the crew. Second place will receive a Raymarine Wireless Race Master and third a Raymarine Wireless Micro Compass. Prize giving for the Raymarine J/80 Championship will take place at the Southampton Boat Show in September.
Notes to editors;
The Raymarine Wireless wind and depth system uses wireless solar powered instruments to keep weight on-board to a minimum. Super-large 38mm digital readouts provide the crew with easily visible information whilst complying with J/80 Class rules.
The Raymarine Wireless Race Master is both a tactical compass and wind shift indicator. Its two-tier display shows heading and distance above or below the mean course plus how much the wind is heading or lifting the vessel. The Raymarine Wireless Race Master makes it easy to find both the favoured end of the start line and the shortest distance to the windward mark. Downwind the Raymarine Wireless Racemaster detects how far off dead downwind the vessel is sailing, allowing the helm to decide the optimal time to gybe.
Raymarine’s compact Wireless Micro Compass is light and easy to read, delivering a reliable and precise compass heading. When tacking towards a windward mark with the Wireless Micro Compass in ‘tactics’ mode, the 90 degree patented split-screen display presents the helmsman with a simple figure that reads the same on port and starboard tack. No need to perform mathematical calculations involving remembering the heading towards the windward mark on the previous tack and the heading of the new tack to detect wind shifts - any changes in this simple number make it easy to spot a lifting or a heading wind shift; one less stress when racing.
